Organizational Behaviour and Leadership 5 op

The course covers key social psychological concepts and theories and their application to the understanding of work organizations and leadership. Many important topics for future leaders are included, such as motivation, attitudes, team dynamics, communication and decision-making. The course consists of lectures and seminars. Seminars include case analysis.


The aim of the course is to provide you with an understanding of organizational behavior from a leadership perspective. The purpose is to develop an understanding of different leadership theories; and analyse selected individual, group and organizational level factors that play a central role in leadership theory and practice. General purpose of the course is to demonstrate the contribution of a social psychological perspective to understanding human behaviour at work. The learning goals for the course are: (1) that you can describe and understand key concepts and key models related to organizational behaviour (2) that you can describe and contrast different leadership models and theories (3) that you can apply these models and theories to critically analyse situations and solve problems (4) that you gain a historical and critical understanding of these models and theories. During the course the participants also get practice in writing academic texts and arguing for their views in class.


Exam or essay, case-seminar/analysis, class participation. More information is available in the beginning of the course. At least 50 per cent ('pass') is required for all different elements of the examination in order to pass the course. Group performance will be assessed as a joint effort, i.e. everybody receives the same mark. You are required to attend 2/3 of the seminars in order to pass the course.
