A standard model of a trading economy. The Ricardian model of trade. Heckscher-Ohlin model of trade. Economies of scale. Imperfect competition and international trade. International trade policy. Tariff analysis.
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to: recognize the traditional theories of trade, identify the impacts of trade on welfare and factors of production, identify the impacts of tariffs and evaluate the economic implications of free trade.

Lectures 8 h **Spring semester 2020, period III intensive lectures (24 February - 8 March 2020)** The course in arranged as integrated into degree studies and lectures take place during the day (Mon-Fri, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m). Lectures are organized at Turku School of Economics (Rehtorinpellonkatu 3). **Exam** Course includes a compulsory exam. Exams are taken electronically through the Electronic Exam service. The students are chosen in registration order. Registration is binding and cannot be cancelled after student has signed the registration form or has paid the payment for studies. Paid payments for studies are not refunded, with exception of cancelation of the studies due to an insufficient number of participants or for another reason connected to the functions of the Open University, or due to an illness of the student preventing his/her studying, in which case an informal written appeal, together with a doctor's or nurse's certificate, must be made to Student services secretary. Right to study cannot be transferred to another study module or unit except in the case that the Open University has to cancel the studies to which the student has enrolled due to an insufficient number of participants. The right to study cannot be transferred to another person either. For any additional information, please contact Student services secretary.
Payment for studies should be paid within 24 hours after the registration using online bank or otherwise the registration is cancelled. In case an online net bank payment is not possible, the student must contact Student services secretary in advance before registration (we charge 15 euros extra for paper invoice).
