The Baltic Sea Region accounts for approximately five percent of the global economy and it is one of the most dynamic regions in the whole world. Moreover, this region covers nearly a half of Finland´s foreign trade and foreign investment. The course provides a student with a comprehensive picture of the macroeconomic situation and the business development in the Baltic Sea Region. Several top level visiting lecturers, representing business, state administration and the Academia, guarantee that a student receives the most up-to-date information on their field of expertise. In addition to lectures, the course contains an analytical case study (a course work) conducted by a student.


After completing the course, a student is able to evaluate independently business opportunities the region offers and assess the future development of the Baltic Sea Region.


Participation in classroom work, written exam and exercise(s)


Lectures 24 h; Lectures 4h/week (Liuhto + guest lecturers) **Autumn semester 2020, period II (26 October - 6 December 2020)** The course in arranged as integrated into degree studies and lectures take place during the day (Mon-Fri, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m). Lectures are organized via remote access (dates and times are given on course timetable above) **Exam** Course includes a compulsory exam (three optional exam dates unless otherwise noted). Exams are taken as lecture hall exams. The exam dates are published in the Nettiopsu of the Open University (Avoimen yliopiston Nettiopsu). Register to take the exam at the latest 7 days before the exam date in the Nettiopsu of the Open University. The exam room will be announced 30 min before the exam on the info board in the main lobby of the Turku School of Economics.



The final grade of the course is based on the exam (40%), the course work (40%), and active participation in the lectures (20%). A student is obliged to attend at least (50%) of the lectures.
