MDP in Food Development

Learning Outcomes:
- Student understands theoretically and in practical level the phenomena and concepts related to molecular food sciences as well as different relationships between them.
- Student has a strong theoretical knowledge on themes of food development which he/she is able to apply into practice.
- Student knows the methods used in food development and can apply them to research and product development purposes.
- Student can independently search, apply, and create information as well as make justifiable decisions based on the information that he/she has critically achieved.
- Student gains experience in real life work in academic and industrial projects in food research and development.
- Student develops skills to work in a responsible role as part of multi-disciplinary and multicultural teams. Student has good oral and written communication skills.

Content: The two-year technical degree programme (M.Sc. (Tech.)) is designed to provide the understanding on the composition, quality and functions of food as well as various challenges faced by in the development of food products. The program provides education and training for the competence for working in the research and development in food industry and for continuation in research in the various fields of food sciences.Studies consist of lectures, seminars, group work, laboratory work, self-study, examinations and written work.

Objectives are to offer theoretical and technical basis for working life in the area of food development and to offer readiness to successfully work in an international working environment

Prerequisites: Students with a B.Sc. (tech.) degree in biotechnology from the University of Turku may continue studies in the programme without separate admission procedure.
