Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Turku continues with the long traditions of chemistry in Turku: Chemistry was taught at the Academy of Turku already at 1761.

The present strength areas in teaching and research are bio-organic and natural product’s chemistry, and materials chemistry. Both combine the traditional branches of chemistry from analytical and inorganic chemistry to physical and organic chemistry, and both are served by the Instrument Centre. Laboratory exercises at the basic and subject level take place in a separate teaching laboratory. Education is given from BSc. to PhD. level. In addition, in chemistry studies it is possible to become a Chemistry Teacher. Descriptions and schedules for courses taught in English at the department are published in the ECTS-guide on the websites of the faculty.
