Topic:  Optimization and decision support in transportation

Table of contents/course description:
In practice transportation and logistics arise a huge number of optimization questions and everyday problems require sophisticated decision support techniques. In this short course we present the theory and the real life approaches in transportation decision support. We will concern the basic modelling questions and also present case studies showing the real-life constraints and solution methodologies.The applied modelling background is based on mainly combinatorial and linear programming approaches, the solution methods will use discrete optimization and heuristics techniques. The prerequisites are basics in algorithms and linear algebra.

Number of hours: 8

Evaluation: Based on a summary essay submitted electronically.

Requirements: The essay will summarize some main topics of the course. The length of the essay is 5-10 pages. The required format of the paper is specified as:
