Learning outcomes

The course introduces students to the structures, institutions and cultural patterns of Finnish society. It focuses on exploring phenomena of contemporary Finnish society, but also offers an overview of the historical processes that have shaped them. During the course, the students will get acquainted with basic sociological concepts and theoretical frameworks.

General description

The course offers a sociological introduction to Finnish society and culture. Among the topics covered are multiculturalism and ethnic relations, work life, family and everyday life, cultural production, violence, class and inequality, and political culture.
