General description

The goal of the course is to study knowledge production through embodied practices. The course is simultaneously practical and theoretical. It includes workshops, lectures and reading circles about themes/practices such as voice, movement and dance, feminist self-defense, roller derby, drag, and/or other relevant embodied practices.

Learning aims: After a completed course, the students have learned how to reflect on embodied materializations of knowledge and what embodied, material knowledge production could be. The students also learn how to connect embodied practices and experiences to theoretical ideas.

Study methods: Workshops, lectures/reading circles.

Examination: Active participation, a learning diary.

The course is organized in cooperation between Gender Studies departments at Åbo Akademi University and the University of Turku and is available to international students as well as degree students at both universities. The course meetings and workshops are in English, but you can submit the written assignments (the learning diary) in English, Swedish or Finnish. You can take this course as an elective course on any level of study, but some background in Gender Studies is recommended. The maximum number of students is 30 (in sign-up order).
