Learning outcomes

To widen and deepen the knowledge gained on the course Ydin- ja hiukkasfysiikka I (Nuclear and Particle Physics I). After completion the course the student understands the main principles of the theories of alpha- and beta-decay and is able to apply these theories in predicting decay probabilities. Based on the models and kinematics of nuclear reactions, the student is able to estimate reaction cross sections. The student has basic knowledge of nuclear astrophysics. The student also understands which processes affect the propagation of radiation in matter. On the experimental side, the student is familiar with the basic principles of the machines used for creating high-energy particle radiation and the detectors and detector arrangements used for detecting these particles.
