General description

Tandem is a pair or a small group programme in which students work in pairs or in small groups with a native speaker of the target language. One of the two languages practised is always Finnish.

The tandem pairs/groups meet weekly to speak both languages equally. During the course they keep a learning diary or blog, and at the end of the course they report to the teacher in charge.

Tandem is intended to complement other language studies. This course cannot be included in the obligatory language and communication studies.

When you get the contact information about your tandem partner/group, arrange a meeting. In the meeting, agree upon your schedule and discuss the content of the course. Make a draft of your planned studies, i.e. what kind of things you would like to practise or what kind of topics you would especially like to discuss. This general plan is meant to help you start off your studies - there is no need for dates or exact plans for each meeting. Send the plan to the teacher in charge by e-mail. After that you may start your tandem studies.  If you need any help, please contact the teacher in question.

The tandem pairs/groups meet weekly spending an equal amount of time in speaking each language. During the course, you should both keep a learning diary or blog, and at the end of the course you report to the teacher in charge. The learning log should contain a detailed report in the target language of the topics that have been covered, and a reflection on your learning in your mother tongue. The length of the log should be at least three 1.5-spaced typed sheets.

NB! This course can only be taken once!
