Turku Law School

Turku Law School (TLS) is a cooperative organization involving the two universities in Turku: the Faculty of Law and the Turku School of Economics of the University of Turku, and the Law Department of the Åbo Akademi University. One of the main aims of this cooperation is to combine the resources of these institutions in order to provide foreign students with a broad range of high quality law courses taught in English.

Since the Åbo Akademi University and the University of Turku are two different Universities, they also have separate student registers. Students need to have separate student numbers for both Universities, in case they plan to take courses from both curriculums. Students get a student number from the Student Office of the University in question.

TLS courses that are listed below are organised by the University of Turku.

Students register for the TLS courses organised by the University of Turku in NettiOpsu(https://nettiopsu.utu.fi).

In order to have access to NettiOpsu, students must first register for the University in order to get a student number. Then a student must get an UTU user account and password from the Computing Centre. Their service desk is located in Educarium, 4th floor.

Participation in the first lecture is necessary in order to confirm the registration. At the University of Turku, in study modules with remark "restricted entry", 1/3 of the places is reserved for the degree students of the Faculty of Law. For the remaining places, the following criteria will be used to select the participants:

1. exchange students of the TLS cooperative institutions
2. degree students of the TLS cooperative institutions
3. other law students
4. non-law students

Some courses have separate application procedures and application deadlines. These procedures and deadlines are always announced in the detailed study plan of the respective course. Therefore, students are encouraged to read the study plans carefully.

Courses that are organised by Åbo Akademi University can be found in here: http://www.abo.fi/institution/en/studierrvi

In most cases, students register for the TLS courses organised by Åbo Akademi University by attending the first lecture of the course. Some courses have other registration processes, so the students are advised to follow the registration instructions for each course. Exchange students need to be preapproved for the courses, i.e. have the courses in their learning agreements, which are approved by the Department of Law. For more information on preapproval, please contact the International Office.

For courses organised by Åbo Akademi University another selection criteria is used. Please contact lawcourses@abo.fi for more information.
