Learning outcomes

Kindly note that these courses are available in academic year 2016-2017. In the academic year 2017-2018 The Faculty of Social Sciences offers the study module of Finnish and Nordic Society and Culture in English.

Book exams in Economic Sociology are available until 31 October 2017.


Economic sociology is interested in the role of social relationships in economy. The discipline aims at understanding the markets and the consumption patterns of individuals. By studying economic sociology, students get acquainted with economic operational environments and their central features. Students will also learn to examine various economic phenomena from a social perspective as part of a wider societal context. Economic sociology also acquaints the student with the philosophical questions associated with the market economy.

The courses of economic sociology concentrates on the following themes:
- culture, way of life, and cultural tastes
- consumption and consumer behavior
- working life and organizations
- networks and social structures
- digitalization and social interaction
