Learning outcomes

After the course students will have knowledge about the development of Finnish language within the Uralic language family, as well as the development of written Finnish, and recognize and discuss different types of variation in Finnish and in their native languages.

Contents

The course will give students a theoretical insight into regional and social variations of Finnish, as well as the development of literary Finnish. In addition, students will learn about the development of the Finno-Ugric languages, especially the Baltic Finnic languages, starting from Proto Finno-Ugric and continuing to modern Baltic Finnic languages, with emphasis on Finnish.
