Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide a comprehensive picture of different information system technologies supporting accounting. Different information systems are needed for different parts of accounting and students will learn to evaluate information systems from an accounting perspective. Having completed the course, students can participate and assist in accounting system development.


The topics covered include overview of accounting information systems and information needs, overview of transaction processing, database management systems, enterprise resource planning systems, applications of accounting information systems in the revenue and expenditure cycle, information technology controls, accounting information systems as management control systems, and performance effects of accounting information systems.
