Contents

The aim of this course is to give a basic level outlook to the new theories and practices in economic geography and related aspects from science and technology studies and innovation studies. We will selectively go through the development of theoretical strands of modern economic geography, such as location theory, innovation systems theory, cluster theory, different branches of regional economic theories, theories linking S&T studies and innovation studies and selected aspects of the so-called ‘new economic geography’. The theoretical part is vivified by empirical case examples. In addition to the theoretical part, the course aims to give an overall picture of the transformations in the economic geographies in the Baltic Sea Region as presented by our case studies.
