Learning outcomes

The student will learn to analyse the location of economic activities relying on different theoretical approaches, and s/he understands the various ways in which firms depend on their operational environments in cities, regions, and nations. By identifying and investigating a contemporary phenomenon related to industrial location currently discussed in the media, the student will learn to apply the ideas learned in class to concrete cases in chosen industries.

Contents

The location of firms and corporate activities will be discussed in relation to key location factors in the urban, regional, national, and global environments. Besides Economic Geography majors, the course is recommended, i.a., to students in Marketing, International Business, and Organisations and Management. The Economic Geography courses TM41-TM47 and TMS41-48 will further elaborate on the themes of this course.
