Preceding studies
It is highly recommended to complete at least KV22 or KV23 before taking this course.

Learning outcomes

After completing this intensive course, students will be able to describe and understand the economic developments taking place in the Arctic region. Students will also be capable of analysing the impact of environmental, political and other trends on doing business in the region. Moreover, students will learn about engaging in and doing cross-border business collaboration in the High North as some selected case companies with Arctic business expertise will be presented.

Contents

Due to global warming and technological advancements, the natural resources and sea routes in the High North are becoming increasingly accessible. As a result, the economic activity to exploit these resources is increasing, particularly in the maritime, energy, and mining industries. The increasing activity creates business opportunities to other sectors as well. However, the Arctic is also more and more interesting political arena due to its strategic importance, and at the same time a unique and very fragile natural environment. This course presents the conditions as well as future opportunities and challenges to doing business in the Arctic, with particular focus in the Barents Sea region.
