Learning outcomes

As active participants in this course, students will take part in finding and correcting their own errors within work groups and during class discussion. Throughout the length of the course, students will work together on their papers in groups of three or four.

This course is in English and meets when needed for a total of 25 contact hours. It is designed to give participants practice in writing English academically. It offers the opportunity to improve English writing skills based on the MLA style for writing academic papers. This is not a course for beginners. Active participation is required.

The teacher will work individually with students on expressing and explaining difficult concepts, on paper revision, and grammatical structures, word choice, and errors. The course is structured so that students have the opportunity to interact with academic texts while working with grammatical structures and new vocabulary. Students will also get practice in presenting their topic of research and argue their point of view. Quotations, citations, and paraphrasing will be practiced while learning to avoid plagiarism.
