General description

The course is integrated in nature and covers all the different areas of linguistic skills. The course offers tuition in speaking, written work, and listening and reading comprehension.
Communication skills will be improved by discussions and written exercises as well as by reading and listening comprehension exercises. In addition to attending the classes, participants must also be prepared to study a lot independently.

Learning outcomes

The student can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, studies, leisure, etc. He / she can communicate in tasks requiring a simple information on familiar topics and activities. He /she can understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language. The student can also write simple texts connected with topics which are familiar or of personal interest.

Contents

Students will learn more about the basic structures of the Finnish language. The classes include intermediate grammar, e.g. the conjugation of the verbs in the past tense, the imperative mood, more about noun types, ordinal numbers, postpositions, partitive plural and the object case form.
- structural exercises, communication skills tasks, listening and reading comprehension exercises, writing tasks, which will be prepared at home.
