Learning outcomes

After completing the module, the doctoral candidate is familiar, on a comprehensive basis, with the discussions on the philosophy of science and research approaches, which have gone on with respect to business studies, and has a command of the rationales behind the choices for various research methodologies.


This study module will acquaint the doctoral candidates with the research tradition and methodological alternatives of business studies.

The principle of process learning will be followed in this study module. Students are expected to carefully prepare themselves for each session based on the daily program of the course and the instructions of the teacher. Interactive learning is emphasized during the course.

No lectures in English. Those students who do not know Finnish are asked to contact prof. Lukka with a view of agreeing how to take this course.

Requirements include the readings of the daily program of the course as well as things that emerge during the teaching sessions. Doctoral candidates earn base points for the written exam by active participation of high quality in the contact sessions.

The two books mentioned under item Study materials are not directly required in the exam of the study module. They are however warmly excpected readings for the course and can also support learning during it.

The course will be run every other academic year.
