Learning outcomes

The course focuses on explaining theory and practice of international trade and finance. The course begins with analyzing gains from international trade, examining the ways in which governments can restrict trade and the effects of such restrictions. The course continues with international financial issues, such as the balance of payments and exchange rates. It concludes with regional and global trends for integration.


The course covers the theory of international trade with themes on comparative advantage, factor abundance and economies of scale. It completes a theoretical model with governmental instruments of trade policy. Topics on international finance cover the themes on countries’ current and financial accounts, exchange rate determination and optimal currency areas.
