FFYS7005 Plasma Physics 5 ECTS
Organised by
Physics
Person in charge
Timo Laitinen
Preceding studies
Recommended:
Electromagnetism I & II, Statistical and Thermodynamics.

Learning outcomes

The student understands the basics of plasma physics: how the currents
and flows, represented by the free charge carriers, interact with the
electric and magnetic fields. The student and gains a basic
understanding of the hierarchy of the various description levels of the
plasma phenomena, and the rich variety of the waves in plasmas.

Contents

Basic concepts of plasmas. Charged particle motion. Plasma conductivity. Kinetic description. Macroscopic description. Magnetohydrodynamics. Cold plasma waves. Warm plasma phenomena
