Preceding studies
Practical skills of the higher level programming language. The examples and exercises are mostly in C, FORTRAN90/95, FORTRAN77. Courses "UFYS3056 Fortran 90 and Numerical Methods" and XFYS4326 "Statistical methods" are compulsory courses before this is taken.

Learning outcomes

The course will introduce the most common methods used in astrophysical simulations and modelling applied to different physical problems.

Contents

During the lectures and exercises different methods and codes used in astrophysical simulations are presented and during the exercises these techniques are applied to simple astrophysical problems. The topics cover methods used in stellar structure codes, radiative transfer codes, N-body codes and astrophysical fluid dynamics codes. Also, different programs used to present and analyze the simulation data are presented.
