Learning outcomes

Understand the possibilities there are for companies to work for development; know what are the MDGs and understand the contents of them; understand what possibilities and challenges the MDGs and globalisation set for companies; know what are global partnerships between companies and their stakeholders; understand what are CSR, CR and SD.


The aim of this course is to understand the possibilities there are for companies to work for development (following the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals, MDGs) and to understand the challenges globalisation sets for companies. Corporate (social) responsibility (CSR or CR) is the main framework with which companies are known to answer to the challenges and face the development problems.

Teaching methods

The course includes virtual lectures, literature and lecture assignments and group discussions of given topics. The course is culminated in the final report where the student concentrates on one MDG. The course can be done 100% virtually in Moodle environment.

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 0-5.
The course grade is given by final report. The literature and lecture assignments are not graded individually but they are obligatory. If the student is very active in the group discussions, the grade can be raised by 1.
