prof. John Eriksson, Åbo Akademi
Preceding studies
Students should have basic knowledge in cell biology.

Learning outcomes

Deepening the knowledge in cell signalling.

Contents

The course focuses on intracellular signal pathways. In addition to an overview of signaling concepts and routes, the course gives in-depth insights into the molecular details of all major signaling pathways. Major techniques used to analyze different pathways and signaling molecules are presented. Different approaches to target signaling pathways by drugs and clinical therapies are also discussed.

Teaching methods

The course is composed of lectures, selfstudies,
web material with problem-based home assignments, and subject-related seminars. As a basic information platform, the course relies upon the signaling-related sections in Alberts et al. Molecular Biology of the Cell, 5th edition (Garland Science)representing current topical projects in the cell signaling community of Turku / Åbo
