Genetics of natural populations, evoluutioekologian jatkoluennot, molekyylibiologian perusteet, one field course

Learning outcomes

The project aims to give students an insight into what it takes to conduct a research project in the multi-disciplinary field of evolutionary biology by having to participate in all components of ongoing research in the department.

The project typically involves the following phases: 1) getting familiar with the background theory and planning the empirical part together with the supervisors; 2) collecting DNA-samples in the field; 3) analysing the samples in the Turku Evolutionary Genetics laboratory (TEGLab); 4) conducting simple data analyses (sometimes including already available additional data); and 5) writing a research report. Projects are co-supervised by researchers in ecology and genetics.

Further information

Projects are aimed both at genetics and ecology students that preferably work together; also single students may apply. Students planning to complete the evolutionary biology specialization are preferred.
Note: Master's students may either take this course or BIOL5060 Research project. This course is also open for PhD students.
To register your interest to participate in a project, send an email to anti.vasemagi@utu.fi.
The holding of this course is dependent on sufficient student interest and resources available.
