Learning outcomes

The students will get a thorough understanding of the different Quaternary environmental and climatic changes as well the research methodology applied to track these changes.

Advanced level knowledge about ice age environmental changes, paleoclimatology and methods of reconstruction of Quaternary environment. The Quaternary Period comprises the last 2.5 million years of Earth history, an interval dominated by climate fluctuations and the waxing and waning of large northern hemisphere ice sheets. This course will cover the many types of geologic evidence, from polar ice sheets to deep-sea sediments that are used to reconstruct ocean and atmospheric conditions (e.g., temperature) through the Quaternary.
