Basic studies module in media studies.

Learning outcomes

Students will learn to make sense of questions of media studies from theoretical and philosophical perspectives. They will discover options for interpreting the essence and instrumental value of the media. Moreover, students achieve an understanding about the critical concepts of media studies, their background and different ways to apply them.

Contents

Diverse traditions of media theory and philosophy (new materialism, media archaeology, media ecology, etc.) and the analytical usage of them within media studies.

Teaching methods

Lectures, reading and writing assignments.
