Learning outcomes

To learn how to deal with system-level electrical issues present in a large and high- performance systems-on-chip. Understands impact of noise in an electrical system and techniques to manage noise, understands definitions, causes and implications of device mismatch, device faults and manufacturing inaccuracies, understands different signaling techniques and is able to utilize these techniques, understands on-chip and off-chip power distribution, understands different timing conventions and their utilization, is able to deal with synchronization problems in multi-clocked systems. To learn principles of Network-on-Chip communication paradigm.


Technology scaling and its effect on system’s functionality and performance, wires as circuit components, noise in digital systems and its effect on functionality and performance, noise management in system design, on- and off-chip signaling and signal encoding techniques, on- and off-chip power distribution, timing conventions, clock distribution, and synchronization methods, asynchronous design and impact if device mismatch. Network-on-chip.
