Learning outcomes

After the course the student will have an overview of the tools, procedures and analysis techniques developed for handling large amounts of data on species and their distribution. The student will also understand the benefits and problems in sharing biodiversity data and be familiar with some data sharing initiatives.

Contents

Lectures on informatics tools, metadata, data sharing and the use of museum and observational databases in research. Practicals on data base design and species distribution
modelling. Student presentations on data sharing portals.
