General description

Basics of molecular genetics. Knowledge of nucleic acids and molecular biology methods to understand nucleic acid sequence data and gene regulation.

Learning outcomes

After completing Introduction to molecular genetics, the student can: Describe the main features how the genetic information flows within an organism in transcription and translation; can describe RNA splicing and alternative splicing and basic elements in gene regulation in prokaryotes and eukaryotes; can list a number of techniques in molecular biology and describe their general principles.


How to study genes and genomes; exploring proteins; DNA sequencing methods, including high-throughput methods; polymerase chain reaction.
