General description

This is a short course designed to help dental students with the language and terminology they need to study their dental texts in English.

Learning outcomes

After the course the student should:
- have a deeper knowledge of the terminology used in dental and medical texts
- be able to recognize and understand the most commonly used terms
- be able to recognize the smaller parts of which dental and medical terms consist and be able to combine them to form meaning
- have a better knowledge of strategies used to read dental texts

Contents

Topics covered on the course are:
- how basic dental terminology is formed
- important dental terms: tooth surfaces, internal and external structure of teeth, skull and jaw terminology, bones, muscles and numbering systems
- key words of dental language
- layers of text found in dental and medical texts
- terminology tests at the beginning of each lesson that must be passed to gain credit
- a final exam.
