General description

This blended course is designed for those nurses without an AMK certificate in English and is meant to bring English back to mind in preparation for the nursing science English course later in the autumn. After two sessions (8 hours contact), work is done independently through Internet based tasks on a self-study basis.

Learning outcomes

After the course the students should:
- have refreshed their English skills
- activated speaking skills in the classroom
- have greater confidence in using new English vocabulary and grammar
- have greater grammatical awareness, accuracy and usage of the language
- be able to better recognize common slips and errors in English and have an increased ability to correct them
- have some tools for improving their skills in English

Contents

The course covers a wide variety of tasks including:
- assessing strategies for language learning and identifying to improve
- activating speaking skills in the classroom and accuracy
- reviewing and practicing basic grammar according to the needs of attending students
- broadening vocabulary according to the needs and wishes of attending students
- consolidating vocabulary related to general English as well as nursing sciences
- speaking activities in pairs and small groups
- introducing tools for language learning
- completing online tasks and assignments
