General description

This course builds on Intensive Beginners' Course. The course is integrated in nature and covers all of the language skills: it offers tuition in speaking, written work, and listening and reading comprehension. Communication skills will be improved by discussion and written exercises, as well as by reading and listening comprehension exercises. In addition to attending the classes, participants must also be prepared to study a lot independently.

Learning outcomes

After the course the student should be able to understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, studies, leisure, etc. He/she should be able to communicate in tasks requiring a simple information on familiar topics and activities. He/she should be able to describe some of the most important things about themselves, their families and the immediate surroundings, and to understand descriptions of such topics.

Contents

Students will learn more about the basic structures of the Finnish language, e.g., use of the local cases, more about noun types, postpositions and past tense forms. Exercises in oral communication and listening comprehension will also be included. Additionally, there will be a few writing tasks to be prepared at home.

The course consists of structural exercises, communication skills tasks, listening and reading comprehension exercises, and writing tasks, which will be prepared at home.
