General description

The course emphasises practicing communication skills and enriching vocabulary. Communication skills will be improved by discussions and written exercises as well as reading and listening comprehension exercises. Attention is also paid to spoken Finnish.

Learning outcomes

After the course students should be able to use basic memorised phrases, groups of words from the below-mentioned themes in order to communicate limited information in simple everyday situations. Students should be able to answer easy questions and respond to simple statements.

Contents

The course will cover at least the following themes: home (house and rooms), furnishing and furniture, professions and working places, travelling (vehicles and time tables), food and eating, shopping (buying and paying), family and relatives, leisure time and free-time activities, some of the most common forms of colloquial Finnish.
