General description

This course builds on Beginners' Course I. Students will learn more about vocabulary and basic structures of the Finnish language. Communication skills will be improved by discussions and written exercises as well as by reading and listening comprehension exercises. Special emphasis will be placed on active communication skills.

Learning outcomes

After the course students should be able to understand and use simply-structured Finnish expressions that concern some of the most common matters and situations related to everyday life. They should be able to describe some of the most important things about themselves, their families and the immediate surroundings, and to understand descriptions of such topics.

Contents

Classes include more basic grammar, e.g., use of the local cases, more about noun types, postpositions and past tense forms. Exercises in oral communication and listening comprehension are also included. Additionally, there will be a few writing tasks which will be prepared at home.

Themes: Time expressions, house and living, travelling and vehicles, food and eating, celebrations, work and professions.
