Learning outcomes

After completing this course the student can: describe how dominant and recessive genes are inherited; explain several ways in which gene variants can lead to malfunctions in gene products; describe some non-classical modes of inheritance and recognize them in pedigrees; explain basic concepts of gene regulation, epigenetics, evolution, and phylogenetics; and produce phylogenetic trees with computer software and interpret some implications of such trees.

Contents

Basics of classical genetics, cytogenetics, population genetics, evolution and medical genetics.
