In this course, students learn about various issues of the foreign exchange market. Students also learn about the way changes in the policy rates are passed through to retail bank interest rates and understand the channels through which monetary policy impulses are transmitted to the real economy.

The course is organized in two parts. The first part of the course focuses on the foreign exchange market. The first chapter introduces to concepts such as the direct and indirect quotation, bilateral, cross-exchange rates, effective exchange rate, spot and forward exchange rates, nominal and real exchange rates. The second chapter covers the topics of exchange rate regimes and international monetary systems. The third chapter addresses the issue of the foreign exchange rates determination. The second part relates to the monetary policy transmission mechanisms. This part presents several theoretical models on the retail bank interest rate pass-through and gives an overview of the monetary policy transmission channels.
