Learning outcomes

Students learn both from theoretical and empirical view about the path of the European economic integration. Students understand and can evaluate the current functioning and the future perspectives of the European Union.

Contents

The course consists in a broad overview of the various aspects of the process of European economic integration. After a necessary historical and institutional introduction, the course will largely focus on the microeconomic and macroeconomic dimensions of the integration process. In this regard, the main topics will be: trade integration, capital market integration, exchange rate regimes, optimum currency areas, monetary integration and fiscal policy coordination. During the course, also the working of the European budget, the Common Agricultural Policy and the task allocation topic in multilevel government systems will be treated and discussed.
