Learning outcomes

The module aims to provide the student with an overview of the role of management in organizations. The course enables the student to link organizational contingencies to organizational design. It gives the student an appreciation of the key issues associated with achieving purposeful activity within organizations. Furthermore, the module will provide the student with foundation material for further studies concerned with management.


This module introduces students to key concepts and theorectical frameworks of management and organization. It explores the historical emergence of managerial traditions in large and small organisations and presents the key management paradigms from taylorism to Innovation Management. It encourages students to recognize and evaluate alternative perspectives for understanding management, organisation and society.

Restricted attendance! The course is available only for Master's Degree Programme students who cannot participate in 020001 JOY course held in Finnish.
