Learning outcomes

Students are able to analyze the connections between ethics and futures studies. Students are also able to evaluate the various ethical dimensions of future developments and understand the ethical responsibilities of a futures practitioner. Particularly with technology foresight and assessment, students are capable of discerning the ethical impacts of various technological applications.

Contents

The course gives comprehensive account on the ethical dimensions of futures studies from the point of view of the philosophy of science. The course will deal with two themes: the critical ethical issues of futures studies, and how a practitioner should follow those ethical principles
in his/her work.

The final grade of the course consists of a written extensive assignment on a selected topic based on literature and supplementary material (50%) and a written exam based on literature (50%). The course also includes group discussion seminars. It is mandatory to attend the group discussions in order to pass the course.
