General description

The students will be able to engage in scholarly debate on critical issues of responsible business and their critical thinking will develop further. The students will have a well-informed understanding of the current debates concerning the role of business in today's global society, and will master the current issues of global responsible business. The students will be familiar with the most recent and relevant interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary academic publications related to the topic, which they can further employ in other contexts, such as a master's thesis and future careers.

Learning outcomes

The emphasis of the course is on learning to read, interpret, and further employ academic articles related to responsible business. The lectures are based on readings of academic articles, which are discussed and debated in class. Collaborative learning and discussion are the main format of the lectures. The readings include the following themes: the political dimension of corporate responsibility, cross-sector collaboration as an innovative approach to responsible business, and critical perspectives on responsible business in different institutional and geographical contexts.

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 0-5.
The final grade is based on an essay (50 %) and presentation and active discussion of articles in class (50%).

3rd or 4th year
The course is offered exceptionally both in the academic years 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, thereafter every other year.
