Learning outcomes

After having passed this course, doctoral students will be broadly familiar with philosophical and methodological topics and debates in business studies. This knowledge will enable them to make informed choices regarding the research approach they will employ in their own research.

Contents

This study module maps and explores methodological options open for a business studies researcher, based on the idea of paradigmatic open-mindedness. It will acquaint the doctoral candidates with the research tradition and methodological alternatives of business studies.

The principle of process learning will be followed in this study module. Students are expected to carefully prepare themselves for each session based on the daily program of the course and the instructions of the teacher. Interactive learning is emphasized during the course.

In addition to the written exam and participation in classroom work, the students are required to do pre-readings for preparation before the course begins. Requirements include the pre-readings, the readings assigned on the daily session program of the course as well as things that emerge during the teaching sessions. Doctoral candidates earn base points for the written exam by active participation of high quality in the contact sessions.

The book by Pratt is a warmly recommended pre-reading for this course. The articles specified during the course will be obligatory readings.

The course is run every other academic year; next time starting early January 2016.
