Learning outcomes

The student develops the skills to analyse and evaluate innovation systems as operational environments of innovative firms at local, national and transnational scales, in Finland in particular.

Contents

Elements of innovation systems materialize as organizational innovations in firms, amongst competitors and collaborators in industries and industrial sectors, and at the level of national, regional, or international environments. The interdisciplinary team of lecturers will present a range of perspectives to the innovation process. Both theory and empirical applications will be discussed. We will consider the Finnish innovation system, its interconnections to innovation systems in other countries and the international innovation scene. We are also encouraged to think ahead and further away: what kind of innovation systems should a country like Finland design for the future? How and why ought the Finnish model differ from other models? The course provides a learning forum for Finnish and visiting students.
