Basic knowledge of economic analysis of law.

Learning outcomes

After passing the course, students know the theory of intellectual property law and economics as well as the practical economic underpinnings of European and international intellectual property and related laws, such as competition law, through discussion, self-study and participation.

Contents

Major theories, premises and concepts will be covered, such as the transaction cost theory, the distinction between property and liability rules, prospect theory, evolutionary economics and post-Chicago literature. The theoretical perspectives will be connected to concrete examples throughout the course.

TIME: II period
SELECTION CRITERIA: Participation is limited to 40 students. Students enrolled in the Master's Degree Programmme in Law and Information Society (LIS) have priority in the selections. 1/3 of the places is reserved for the degree students of the Faculty of Law. For the remaining places, the following criteria will be used to select the participants:

1. exchange students of the TLS cooperative institutions
2. degree students of the TLS cooperative institutions
3. other law students
4. non-law students
