Learning outcomes

In the context of Korea, purpose of this course is to explain nature of history as an argument, to describe how historical events affect contemporary affairs and to evaluate sources based on their accuracy, reliability and value for research. After this course students will be able to reason their arguments efficiently and debate for their arguments.

Contents

This course explores contemporary Korean history from selected controversial viewpoints. Students will read and analyze primary and secondary sources in order to understand how arguments are built. Students are expected to use the given material and possible additional sources to form arguments for and against topic discussed and actively participate in discussions and debates in class. Lecture themes will cover for example territorial, environmental and religious issues.
