General description

This course will help you understand how the English language has evolved from its earliest beginnings to what it is today. The emphasis will be on a descriptive approach to the changes the language has undergone during its remarkable history, with a special reference to the most distinctive structural properties of present-day language.

Learning outcomes

Students gain an overall understanding of the language history. The course provides a basis for further work in the philological field of English studies.
