Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student will be able to apply plasma physics in several astrophysical scenarios. The student will obtain further understanding and quantitative analysis skills on topics introduced on Introduction to plasma physics. In addition, the student will have an understanding of (relativistic) astrophysical flows, particle transport and acceleration, as well as emission mechanisms and propagation of electromagnetic waves in astrophysical plasmas. The student will be familiarized with several types of astrophysical plasmas, including supernova remnants, astrophysical jets and accretion disks.

Contents

Steady flows (accretion and winds); MHD shock waves; relativistic shocks; energetic particle transport; particle acceleration mechanisms; emission mechanisms and propagation of radiation in plasmas.
