Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student will have an overall view of charged particle dynamics in electromagnetic fields, behavior of plasma as a fluid and basic elements of kinetic theory. The student will be able to solve simple problems in single-particle motion, magnetized fluid systems in equilibrium and wave propagation in plasmas. The student will be ready to apply the knowledge in plasma-physics problems of space physics and astrophysics.


Electrodynamics revisited. Basic plasma characteristics. Charged particle motion in an electromagnetic field. Dielectric description of plasma. Magnetohydrodynamic description of plasma. Kinetic description of plasma.
