Learning outcomes

To learn the quantum nature of light and the basics of photon statistics, interaction of light with matter, and to become acquainted with the thoeretical and experimental methods of the field.

Contents

Photon states and their description. Coherent states. Interaction between photons and atoms. Photon correlations, their modelling and measurement. Non-classical states of light such as squeezed light. Experiments with interferometers and beamsplitters. Open quantum systems, dissipation and decoherence. Optical tests of quantum mechanics and experiments with microwave cavities. Basics of quantum cryptography.
